Obesity is responsible for multiple chronic medical conditions. Treatment of obesity is never easy and successful treatment more often than not requires a multidisciplinary approach. Bariatric surgery has an ever increasing significant role in the management of obesity. In this video, Mr Axisa discusses the role of Bariatric surgery in the management of obesity.

Mr Benedict Axisa graduated as a doctor from the University of Malta in 1991. Following his internship at St Luke’s hospital he moved to the UK to further his studies. He was appointed Research Fellow at the University of Leicester where he published his MD thesis on matrix metalloproteinases. He was appointed Specialist Registrar at Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge where he obtained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Upper GI surgery. He was subsequently appointed Consultant Surgeon in the UK and he returned to Malta three years ago. He is presently a Consultant Surgeon at Mater Dei hospital with a special interest in Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery.
